Yanhan Peng is a writer/editor/curator from China and currently lives and works in New York City, USA. She has curated numerous boundary-crossing exhibitions in the urban and rural areas that reflects the current thought and art practice situated within a fast-changing social context in East Asia.
Her professional trajectory started from joining in the Curatorial and Research Department, Guangdong Museum of Art in South China. She worked as Consultant/Coordinator for Farewell to Post-Colonialism: The Third Guangzhou Triennial (2008) and the BMW Guggenheim Lab in Asia (2009). She was also the Assistant Curator for the 2009 Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture, the 2009 Guangzhou Photo Biennial, the 2011 Chengdu Biennial, the 2012 Yixian FotoFest and Bishan Harvestival, among others. From 2016 to present, she co-curated the Jimei Arles International Photo Festival (2016), Archaeologies of the Rural Present: Xiuwu’s Scenery, Crops, Crafts and Demeanor (2020), Back to the Land: Architects and the Rural Reinvented (2021), and Rural Reconstruction: The Practice of Art, Space and Place (2021), etc.
Peng was the executive editor to numerous art publications, including the eight-volume Readers of Current Indian Thought for the 8th Shanghai Biennale (2010), the catalogs for Yixian International Photo Festival (2012) and Jimei Arles International Photo Festival (2016), Topophilia and Placemaking: Kwan-Yen Project (2018), Zizaigu: A Place for the New Nomads (2020), etc. She is the curator of the Kwan-Yen Project for urban renovation in Yantai, Shandong Province since 2017, and the co-founder of The Shelter, an alternative institution for today's art, design and architecture located in multiple places in Anhui, Henan and Sichuan of China.
Peng also curated exhibitions at Hessel Museum, CCS Bard, ISCP and Cloud Gallery in New York. She holds an M.A. degree in curatorial Studies at Center for Curatorial Studies and Contemporary Culture, Bard College, New York. She graduated from the Intercultural Studies Program, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
